Much like any aspect of life, when it comes to fitness people are often so caught up in the fantasy of finding a simple miracle fix for all their problems they neglect to realize that if they just nailed down the basics they could have already got the results they wanted.

Building muscle size and definition isn't just about eating a ton of extra calories per day. Where you get those calories from plays a huge part in how your body will look and what type of size you add. By making a couple of simple changes to your diet you can enhance your results massively.

There is no one 'best' way to diet. Despite all the trainers out there trying to sell their 'best ever plan' to you, there are numerous ways to get results in the gym. You simply have to get the basics right and that's what we're going to show you today. One of the best diets around is known as the 3-5-2 plan. To work out how many calories per day you need to pack on some size, multiply your target weight (in pounds) by fifteen. So a 180 pound guy would require around 2700 kcals in total.

Now we break down these 2700 calories to see our protein, carb and fat intake for each day. This is where the 3-5-2 system comes into play nicely. This basically means 30% protein, 50% carbohydrates and 20% fats.

Multiply your 2700 calories by 30% and you will see how many of your daily calories come from protein. In this case it's 810. To work out carbs and fat simply do the same equation with the relevant percentages.

To convert your protein calories into grams so you know how much to eat, just divide that 810 by four. This gives you 202g. For carbohydrates, take your carb calories and divide by four. When it comes to your daily fats, take your fat calories and divide it by nine. This will give you a complete breakdown of how many calories to eat per day and how much of it needs to come from protein, carbohydrates and fats respectively.

Next we need to talk about supplements. It is very easy to get lost in the supplement market, with every product telling you that it's better than anything else. If you get your diet sorted out first, you will realize that you don't need most of the products you might be wasting your money on right now.

If you are unsure what a compound movement is just think about how many joints are involved in a movement. If it's more than one then it is a compound exercise. A good example of this is a barbell squat. Any exercise which only involves one joint is called an isolation exercise and while it is designed to specifically make that muscle stronger it will not give you the double benefits associated with compounds. A good example of an isolation movement is a wrist curl.

Of course, the smaller movements are also good for building you up and they will round out each session quite nicely but make no mistake about it, the main focus of your entire session needs to be on the exercises which are going to get you to where you want to be. You're not going to hit a new max on the bench press if you have already exhausted your chest on a series of isolation exercises.

Most people who find it difficult to get bigger are able to experience gains they have never had before thanks to that one simple trick. To get the most from it, however, you need to also pay special attention to the second point. As you begin to notice results you will want to train every day. That's actually a bad thing.

Your efforts in the gym deserve physical results and those results happen during periods of rest. If you go to the gym every day you'll notice it becomes more difficult to see any results because your body isn't being given the recuperation time that it needs. This is easily the most overlooked aspect of training for those looking to get bigger.

Last but not least we want to talk about your eating habits. Have you ever heard people say that abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym? Well, it is true. If you are eating junk food you will be adding the wrong type of size to your frame.

You can work out how many calories per day you should eat by simply taking your current body weight in kilo's and multiplying it by twenty five. That's your basal metabolic rate and you should add a further 50% to that target to allow you to get a good building plan established.

However, it's one thing eating the right number of calories in a day. You also have to ensure you are getting a good balance of the 3 main macro nutrients. That's protein, carbohydrates and fat to you and I. A split of 30%, 50% and 20% is enough to make the most of those calories.

Pill Vitamins Versus Liquid Vitamins

As liquid vitamins become more popular and more people are moving away from your traditional bulky pill vitamins it is important to know the facts about each one. I for one prefer a liquid vitamin or chewable vitamin over a pill vitamin but like the saying goes "to each his own."

So let's take a look at some of the differences between the two: we'll start with a vitamin in pill form. Pill vitamins for some can be hard to swallow and have a reputation for not being able to easily absorb in the ones bloodstream. In other words when you take a vitamin in pill form many of us believe that our bodies are not able to absorb the nutrients into our bloodstream. Some believe our body cannot break down this bulky pill and that's also why you may see this passed through when you urinate. This is your body's way of excreting the vitamins that it's unable to use.

Now let's take a quick look at liquid vitamins. Liquid vitamins for the most part are tasty, easy to swallow, and can be absorbed into your bloodstream rather quickly and efficiently. Some vitamins are in liquid form inside a bottle sold on shelves in your local stores, others will be in powder form that you can mix in a glass of cold water and the powder will dissolve in the liquid rather quickly. It's been proven your body can actually use more of the vitamins and minerals found inside a liquid substance opposed to your traditional pill.

Again I'm not a nutritional expert but I have done a lot of research in this field and of course it's always a safe bet to check with your doctor before changing your nutritional patterns. When I decided to change over to liquid vitamins it did a world wonders for me and helped me cope a little bit better with my chronic Lyme disease situation that I've been fighting for the past 10 years.

Let's take a look at liquid vitamins: for the most part they taste great they're easy to swallow and your body can easily absorb the valuable nutrients into your blood stream. I currently take a liquid vitamin derived from whole foods and organic substances. In fact my vitamin gives me over 115 different fruits and vegetables with every serving I take. I found out that 90% of us do not intake the proper amount of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis that the FDA deems healthy for our longevity.

This is an interesting debate has been going on for years. Some believe the ORAC score has no relevance when deciding what type of vitamin you should or shouldn't take. Me on the other hand use the ORAC score test table when judging which vitamins I would like to purchase. Again this is something that you should do your own research on and always come to your own conclusions but I think most people would agree with me that it doesn't do any good to waste time and money taking any vitamin if your body cannot absorb it.

I think most of us would agree it doesn't really do any of us any good to take a vitamin that our body cannot use. Some of us spend a lot of money supplementing putting all these vitamins and nutrients into our body not realizing our body is not able to process most of the valuable nutrition. Another good way to get the proper nutrition in your system is to eat fresh fruits and vegetables along with your vitamin supplement's.

You may even consider blending some fresh fruits and vegetables up with your vitamin and making it into a nutritional smoothie. Breaking whole foods down at the cellular level will give you the nutrition your body needs to sustain a healthy immune system and actually can reverse the aging process. Remember to exercise get plenty of fresh air and of course, come to your own conclusions and do your own research but in the end it may be worth to switch over to liquid vitamin and give it a try.
